## Summary
- Your knowledge is a library of mental models
- Your ability to articulate ideas is defined by how efficient you are at recalling your models and how refined your understanding is
- [[Distill the things we know to the very essence of it]].
- [[Understand concepts, not details.]]
- [[Build your structures of understanding by deconstructing existing ones]]
## Notes
- Under high pressure... [[Steer, don't follow.]]
- When conversing, if the other person is applying "pressure", you want to steer the conversation to take back control - to talk about what you want to talk about, instead of just following their logic.
- Think in frameworks - structures to organize your thoughts.
- Reason from first principles.
- Break down concepts into their atomic parts. Identify the conceptual levers to play with.
- [[To understand the conversation, is to understand the concept.]]
- To understand the concept is to be truly competent.
- Build a library of topics that are important to you.
- Cultivate a collection of topical frameworks. Connect frameworks to deepen understanding and perhaps reveal key insights.
- **Conceptual frameworks are mental models**.
- Always know the first principles of the mental models that are meaningful to you.
- "[[You can't really know anything if you just remember isolated facts and try and bang 'em back.]]"
- "[[Our mental models aren't reality. They are tools, like the models weather forecasters used to predict the weather.]]"
- [[You can plan a pretty picnic, but you can't predict the weather.]]
- "[[If the facts don't hang together on a latticework of theory, you don't have them in a useful form.]]"
- Having an organized library of mental models naturally facilitates effective recall.
- "[[Distill the things we know to the very essence of it]]."
- [[Understand concepts, not details.]]
- Business storytelling frameworks include ethos, pathos, logos - credibility, emotions and logic.
- [[Knowing conceptual structures makes them useful. Connecting them makes them powerful.]]
- [[Build your structures of understanding by deconstructing existing ones]].
