## Notes
- The path to mastery requires [[The four stages of competence]]:
- 1. Unconscious incompetence
- 2. Conscious incompetence
- 3. Conscious competence
- 4. Unconscious competence
- See: [[The three stages]]
- Conscious incompetence means that you are bad, and you know you are bad. To know your weaknesses means to know what to improve on. Knowing your weaknesses gives you direction for growth.
- Evaluate yourself based on what you can do today, rather than compare yourself to what you aspire to one day be able to do in the future.
- Comparing yourself to the person you hope to one day become is a moving target. You will improve, but you will never be able to honestly celebrate how far you've come.
- "[[Just because you know you're bad, doesn't mean you need to feel bad about it.]]"
- "[[You are not your art]]".
- Constructive criticism of your work is feedback about your work, not of you as a person to make something is to put a small piece of yourself in it. However, the thing you made does not and cannot represent you as a complete human being.
- "Comparison and imitation are the fastest ways to improve."
- "[[Build that boat with all your heart and soul. When it's done, you push it out to sea and let it sail.]]"
- Embrace the inevitable of bad days. Bad days are an opportunity to let go and to learn - to discover how to make the next day less bad.
- [[The path to good is to be less bad than the day before]].
- "[[You have 1000 bad drawings inside you. That's just you getting it out of your system.]]"
- "[[There's a gap between your ability and your taste. That's why you know your work. isn't good enough... yet.]]"
- "[[Trust in your tastes. Trust in yourself. Trust that you will get there eventually.]]"
- Judgment resides in the gap between where you are now and where you want to go.
- Judgment may be inevitable. Use it. Take advantage of it. Listen to the free advice that the world is giving you. However, never allow it to compromise your truth.
- "[[Find a group of peers so that you all can be insecure together]]".
- "[[Good judgment comes from experience; experience comes from bad judgment.]]"
- Experience and reflection help articulate what is good in what is bad.
- [[Always push yourself]]. [[Accept that sometimes you will fall. Growth is developed in the moments where you get up.]]
