## Summary

- When facing difficulty, you may not be able to think your way out of it. This is because you're seeing things from a set point of view.

- So many people live with just a certain hat on; they miss out on other possibilities and perspectives.
### White hat
- Data. Information. Facts.
- Look at the problem through the lens of logic.
- For example, if you're planning on purchasing a car. Instead of focusing on internal features and aesthetics, you may focus on price, resale value, mileage, and known manufacturing defects.
### Red hat
- Heart. Emotions. Comfort.
- Look at the problem through the lens of feelings.
### Black hat
- Doubt. What could go wrong. Playing devil's advocate.
- Look at the problem through the lens of judgement.
- (Opposite of yellow hat).
- The information is out there. You're choosing where to shine the spotlight.
### Yellow hat
- Positivity. What could go right.
- Look at the problem through the lens of optimism.
- (Opposite of black hat).
- If you're unsure now, believe that you can figure it out later.
### Green hat
- Outside-the-box. Growth.
- Look at the problem through the lens of possibilities.
- Instead of just choice A or B, there could be C, D, or even E.
### Blue hat
- (You always end with the blue hat).
- Management.
- Listen to the conversation of all the other hats. Appropriately mitigates risks, manages feelings, and makes the decision.
### Innovation
- Book: The structure of scientific revolution.
- A lot of innovation within an industry comes from ideas outside the industry.
- Solutions presented and executed by someone with a different perspective without the limitations of [[Learned helplessness]].
### The brain
- In our brains, we have a reticular activating system (RAS). It plays a crucial role in maintaining alertness and filtering sensory information. This allows to focus on what we think is important.
- The brain is primarily a deletion device.
- If we let everything in, we'll get overloaded, over-stimulated, and over-stressed.
- Your RAS is wired for certain things, such as responding when you hear your name called.
- You can channel your RAS, to focus, based on the questions you ask. To
