## Summary
- "[[It is not a problem to solve. It is a process to manage.]]" - [[Adam Savage]]
- As long as it's within your imagination, the systems you've created are always in motion - imperfect things that present **infinite ways of refinement**.
- Establish as much control as needed at every level. There should be maximum perceived freedom within minimal operating context.
- Users should never have to think about what they can't to - they should focus on feeling what they can do.
- Both the creation of work and the result of work are processes - **systems in motion**.
- The idea of "doneness" is static. An imperfect partial way to perceive the state of something that is constantly in motion in some form.
- "[[Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.]]"
## Notes
### Imperfect systems
- "If I was going to redesign _this cave_. I think I've nailed it." (400 square foot room).
- "**There's still a never-ending series of little things to take care of.**"
- "Lighting. I've added them as needed... it's an imperfect system."
- The list of things to do will continue to grow as you continuously refine your system - expanding the ways that enable you to express your ideas in the most effect ways possible. To [[Honestly expressing yourself | Honestly express yourself]]
### Systems of control
- "I would love to have a much more **monolithic** lighting solution."
- A singular connected system with the flexibility of localized control (if needed).
- In the context of lighting, it's **all about control**. Control of the source/location, amount, and colour. The purpose of control, for Adam's case, would be to **optimize** for the perspective of the algorithms of cameras, while **serving** Adam as a maker in the space. Lighting should be a system that a **user should never have to think about**.
- Localized control is minimized by the global system, without restricting the spectrum of perceived utility.
- In other words, a user should **feel** like they have enough **freedom** and **control** to do what they need to do in the space, given what they have. They should feel like they have maximum control, even though control is distilled through the **environment** of which they are apart of.
### A process to manage
- "I am constantly thinking about what I would do differently."
- "A Buddhist teacher said, '**This isn't a problem to solve, it's a paradox to manage**'. She was referring to life.'"
- "The shop is never done. The shop itself, is a process."
- The work of making things better is never done. That itself is an ongoing [[I do not believe in styles anymore | process of continuing growth]].
- [[Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.]]
- "It looks like it's done... but it's constantly changing."
- [[It is not a problem to solve. It is a process to manage.]]
- "If you're thinking of things as done or not, you're thinking of it in **static terms**."
- "Doneness" is a static snapshot state of something. It rarely represents the totality of something, as everything is constantly in motion in some form.
