## Notes
### Starting small
- [[If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.]]
- "If you make your bed every morning, you would have accomplished the first task of the day."
- "It'll give you a small sense of pride, and it'll encourage you to do another task... and another."
- [[Cultivate the discipline it takes to win the morning battle between your snoozable alarm and your comfortable bed]]... Then make your bed.
- These small [[Atomic habits]], these [[Everyday effort|everyday efforts]], [[Compound ordinary outputs to extraordinary outcomes]].
- [[If you can't do the little things right, you'll never be able to do the big things right.]]
- [[If by chance you have a miserable day, you will come home to a bed that is made.]]
- Performing the act of making your bed is a small but significant way to take care of your (future) self.
- [[A made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better]].
- Coming home to a made bed, that you made yourself, is a way to reset and reframe your thinking to something more productive and positive for the next day. This gradual everyday (paradigm) shift continually raises your [[Be a floor, not a ceiling|baseline]] of your quality of life.
### Sharks
- In SEAL training, there's a series of long swims that must be completed. One of the swims is a night swim. Before the swim, the instructors brief the students of all the species of sharks that inhabit the waters that they will be swimming in. They provide the assurance that no student has ever been eaten by a shark... yet.
- You are also taught to stand your ground if you're approached by a shark.
- "Do not swim away. Do not act afraid."
- If a shark darts towards you, summon all your strength, and punch them in the snout.
- [[There are a lot of sharks in the world. If you hope to complete your swim, you will have to deal with them.]]
- [[If you want to change the world, don't back down from the sharks.]]
### Equalizer
- [[SEAL training was a great equalizer. Nothing mattered but your will to succeed.]]
- [[If you want to change the world, measure a person by the size of their heart, not the size of their flippers.]]
### HELL WEEK
- 6th week of training is known as HELL WEEK.
- 6 days of no sleep, constant physical and mental harassment, and 1 day in the mud flaps.
- Instructors said, they could leave the mud if only 5 men would quit.
- "If I have learned anything in my time traveling the world, it is the power of hope. [[One person can change the world by giving people hope]]."
### Change the world
- Start each day with a task completed.
- Find someone to help you through life.
- Respect everyone.
- Know that life is not fair.
- Know that you will fail often.
- Take some risks.
- Step up when the times are toughest.
- Face the bullies.
- Lift up the downtrodden.
- Never ever give up.
- If you do these things (above), the next generations will live in a world far better than the one we have today.
