Once you get that, everything else comes along." - Along with a power, Stan wanted this hero to have personal problems. So he made this hero a teenager. - With a name, a superpower, and a story, Stan went to his publisher with the idea of Spider-Man. His publisher reacted with, "Stan, that is the worst idea I have ever heard." - "I left the office disappointed, but obviously a much wiser man". - But... He couldn't stop thinking about Spider-Man. ### The dying magazine - At the time, they were publishing the magazine, "Amazing Fantasy". It wasn't doing well. - As they were preparing their last issue to press, Stan put Spider-Man into the magazine - just to get it out of his system. Featured him on the cover. Forgot about it. ### A hero is born - With the last month's sales figures out, the publisher ran to Stan's office and exclaimed, "Stan, you remember that character we both loved so much? Spider-Man? Let's do him as a series." - [[If you have an idea that you genuinely think is good, don’t let some idiot talk you out of it.]] - [[If there is something that you feel is good, something that you want to do, something that means something to you, try to do it.]] - [[If it matters, it’s worth a try.]] - [[Your best work emerges when you pursue what you love in your own way]] - "Don't shirk. Whatever it is you do, give it your best shot".
