[[Notes]] - Topics: [[Productivity]] - People: [[Cal Newport]] - Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8nOPy9UFDI --- ## Summary - [[Be intentional about your time]]. - Use [[Lean manufacturing]]'s pull-based system. - Only actively work on 3 (max) things at one time. - Avoid pushing your active task with an incoming task. Queue new tasks to be pulled later, then ready. - Plan on multiple scales; daily, weekly, quarterly. - Deal with each scale when the time is right. ## Notes ### Pull-based system - Simulate a pull system vs. a push system (focused on just work). - Have a flat list that is split into 2 sections; active and queue. - Sequence your todo list based on priority and/or the order things should get done. Focus on your top 1-3 things. Once those high priority tasks are completed, PULL the next tasks from your queue. Position new items based on priority; the same way your list was sorted to begin with. - Avoid pushing your active task with an incoming task. Queue new tasks to be pulled later, then ready. - Only actively work on 3 (max) things at one time. - Add contextual information (ideas, links, etc...) to items on the list—especially the queued items. - Publicize your list. ### Multi-scale planning - [[Be intentional about your time]]. - Plan on 3 different scales; daily, weekly, quarterly. - For your weekly plan, look at your calendar; looking at your whole week as one unit. - For your daily plan, look at your weekly plan; implement time blocking. - Deal with each scale when the time is right. - No plan is perfect. Make adjustments based on the realities of your day.
